by Dalg, 817 days agoThank you for sailing into the home port of the
Dread Pirates. We are one of the oldest and largest Horde guilds on the Elune server. We have a guild bank and many helpful and knowledgeable people who can join you and aid you as you quest your way through the World of Azeroth and beyond. We are a friendly, helpful, family-oriented guild.
If you wish to join the Dread Pirates:
Step 1: Read this entire page.
Step 2: Click the "Apply to Guild" link on the left.
Step 3: Register using your
Main Toon's name as your Forum Username. Be forewarned that registering on GuildLaunch and joining the
Dread Pirates forum is a two-step process. If GuildLaunch won't let you use your Main's name, put an ' or a - after it and try again.
Step 4: Complete and submit the application.
Dread Pirates ~ Pirate Code
Dread Pirates is an honorable guild. We have one basic principle - RESPECT. This basic principle translates into an easy to follow code of conduct. Members are expected to act with honor, to treat other players with respect and courtesy, display good social etiquette, and not bring dishonor to the guild. The following lists are examples of unacceptable behaviors. Any member who violates the code of conduct will be given a warning once, severe violations will warrant removal from the guild, at the discretion of the officers and guild leaders or guild master.
No foul language or sexually explicit language on public channels and voice channels (trade, looking for group or general chat, ingame voice chat, Ventrilo) or aimed at another player.
Our guild members are expected to communicate to other players in a polite and mature manner. Guild chat is expected to remain rated G, so profanity or foul language on public channels will not be tolerated. (e.g. "/shout I hate this!@#$% zone. Blizzard is a!@#$% piece of!@#$%"). The same applies to direct insults to other players (e.g., "/whisper Tom You are a !@#$%"). If you wish to say something for the adults, be creative and avoid cursing. Bear in mind that you may receive a warning once, but if caught doing it again you WILL be removed from the guild.
No harassment of other players
Dread Pirates strive to become a well-known and respectable guild in Elune. All members are expected to display respect and courtesy towards other players both in and out of the guild. Any harassment of other players for any reason will not be tolerated.
Dread Pirates are to be courteous to members of the guild regardless of the level of their peers or the rank of fellow guild members. No Dread Pirate is to ever make another member feel inferior due to level, rank, gear or time played. No one in this guild is better then anyone else.
No intolerance of others due to RL (real life) race, gender, sexuality and/or religion.
Any display of out-of-character racism by a guild member will result in them being kicked faster than they can blink. Enough said. In-character racism is allowed for role-playing purposes i.e., only when it involves races within the context of World of Warcraft game play. e.g., horde races vs. alliance races. Any gender based insults whether in or out of character may cause harm to others, and are not allowed. There will also be no slurs against any person’s sexual orientation. Role-playing is not an excuse for gender based intolerance. Additionally, please keep all RL religious jokes out of guild chat.
No begging for money/items/buffs/food/drink/instance free rides in guild or in any of the public channels or areas.
Nobody likes beggars. If you need something, you can ask if anyone has extra ONCE. If no one responds, please go out and earn it like everyone else. It is perfectly acceptable to request aid from the guild to assist you with a specific instance or quest. However, we do not want our members to expect to get money/items for free just by sitting in town and begging other players. You may ask for buffs from other players in a polite manner. If they buff you, please thank them. If they refuse, thank them anyway and do not keep asking. The same applies to food/drink, but only in the case where you really need it, and cannot easily acquire it yourself. Examples of what NOT to say: "Can anyone spare some items or money please?", or "buff me". This is considered being a public nuisance and you WILL be removed from the guild. Do not beg for gold in guild or in public channels, this is rude and makes not only yourself but the guild look badly.
No arguing in public channels with guild members over loot or other issues
The
Dread Pirates guild promotes harmony and fairness amongst its members. Any member who displays greed, and causes ill-feelings or arguments is not welcome in the guild. In such cases, the matter will be discussed by officers and/or the guild leaders, and a course of action decided upon. If anyone has general issues, please post to the message board so everyone can discuss it. If anyone has a problem with another member, please feel free to contact an officer or the guild leaders. Also, we are a guild with pride and honor, and this guide line applies to non-guild members as well.
Need before Greed
When grouped with other
Dread Pirates, there is a standing "need before greed" rule. We recommend Master Looter be employed as the looting method. (This helps prevent mistakes.) If an officer is present, he/she should be the master looter. In the absence of an officer, the member with the highest guild rank should be master looter. When determining distribution of items, the overall benefit to the guild should be considered first. For example, if a rogue is in a group with a warrior and a shaman and an epic BOE shield drops from a mob, the rogue should only roll for the shield if both the warrior and the shaman decide not to use the item personally. As much as it is tempting to obtain the item and sell it in the AH, or to send it to an alt, need is first based on the toons present. Also, if your character could use the item but you already have equal or better, check first to see if anyone else needs the item. If you wish to roll on every item when in a group, even when you do not need the item, the
Dread Pirates is not the right guild for you. Wanting to sell an item in the Auction House because you are low on money is not a reason to roll, unless no one else in the group can use the item. All looting rules should be laid out and agreed upon by all members of the party so that there is no chance of miscommunication amongst party members.
Abandoned Toons
Toons that are not logged in for over three months may be removed from the guild. We understand real life comes first. If you are going to be away from the game for extended periods of time, please leave us a message on the forum. If one of your characters is removed by accident, please send a message to an officer for an invitation back into the guild.
Promotion System
The ranking system is something that we use to have a little extra fun within the game, to help out the guild, and to motivate members to have an increasingly positive influence on the guild as a whole as they increase in game level and guild rank. Promotions are based upon your achievements, your willingness to help others, and your efforts to strengthen and improve the guild.
Our guild is structured as a pirate fleet containing several ships. You should join a ship's crew as soon as you can. You might be asked by a captain or first mate to join their crew. If you don't want to wait for them to ask, you can ask one of them. You cannot be promoted above Valet without belonging to a crew.
Step 1: Check how long you've been in the guild. Ranks are partially based on a minimum time requirement:
• Farm Boy - Join guild.
• Valet - Must have applied and been accepted on the website, and must have signed on with a ship. No promotion quest required.
• Sailor - Must be a ship's crew member in good standing and must have been Valet rank for a minimum of one week. No promotion quest required.
• Brute Squad - Must be a ship's crew member in good standing and must have been Sailor rank for at least two weeks. Quest required.
• Pirate - Must be a ship's crew member in good standing and must have been Brute Squad rank for at least three weeks. Quest required.
• Dread Pirate - Must be a ship's crew member in good standing and must have been Pirate rank for at least four weeks. Quest required.
Step 2: Know your guild mates, and make sure they know you.
In almost every promotion scenario, you will be asked to name fellow guildmates that you've grouped with. As time goes on and you get to some of the upper ranks, you will be asked to name people who will vouch for you. It's a bad habit to continually give the same names, so get to know as many people as possible and make a lasting impression on them.
Step 3: Send your ship's captain an ingame mail requesting a promotion quest. Include the following:
1. Your time in guild
2. Your current rank
3. Your main's name and level, and your alts' names.
4. The names of a few guildies you've grouped with.
5. Your tradeskills and levels of those trade skills.
6. Your request for a promotion quest.
Step 4: Be patient.
Our captains are busy but will try to handle your promotion as quickly as possible.
Other notes:
• Remember, it is your responsibility to ask your captain for a promotion. That being said, please follow the steps above and please use an ingame email to provide this information. It's a good idea to whisper your captain first but please do not pester him or her or it may seriously delay your promotion request. Use common courtesy and common sense.
• Upon entering the guild, you will be assigned the rank of Farm Boy (from the beginning of the movie Princess Bride). Our apologies if you are, in fact, a Farm Girl but there are certain limitations to the user interface that we can’t overcome.
• Your main toon is the one you will work towards promoting. The ranks of your alts are changed to match your main toon's rank.
• There is no penalty for not getting promoted.
Have fun storming the castle!
